In the wise words of Miley Cyrus, “It’s a party in the USA!” We’ve always lived by this motto, even if we have to do it while in quarantine. But this holds especially true on the 4th of July. It’s basically written in the bylaws of the Declaration of Independence. 

Listen, we don’t make the rules!

To celebrate Independence Day, we handpicked 3 red, white, and blue cocktails recipes from some of our favorite mixologists’ curated by Punch Drink that screams freedom to party INTO THE AM

Absent Stars, by Nick Detrich of Cane & Table 

INGREDIENTS

Serving: 1 

1 ounce Campari

1 ounce rhum agricole, preferably La Favorite Blanc

¾ ounce lemon juice

½ ounce passion fruit syrup (1:1, simple syrup: passion fruit purée)

½ ounce apricot brandy

5 drops saline

10 drops grapefruit bitters

Garnish: orange twist 

DIRECTIONS

Build in a shaker tin, add Hoshi cubes and shake 20 times.

Fine-strain in a chilled glass.

Season sides of glass with the orange twist then mount.

 

KiKiKōlada, by Fanny Chu of Donna 

INGREDIENTS

Serving: 1

¾ ounce KōHana Hawaiian agricole rum

¾ ounce Rum-Bar White Overproof Jamaican rum

¾ ounce Giffard Caribbean Pineapple

¾ ounce fresh pineapple juice 

¾ ounce coco mix (3 parts Coco Lopez:1 part coconut milk)

½ ounce Giffard Blue Curaçao

½ ounce lemon juice

Garnish: pineapple wedge, mint sprigs, lemon wheel, tiki umbrella

DIRECTIONS

Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin and add pebble ice.

Whip shake.

Dump full contents of mixing tin into a chilled bamboo Collins glass or tall tiki-style glass.

Garnish with pineapple, mint, lemon and umbrella.

 

The Pastry War’s ‘Spicy With Tequila’, by Bobby Heugel of The Pastry War

INGREDIENTS

Serving: 1 

2 ounces tequila, preferably Tapatio Blanco 110

1 ounce lime juice

½ ounce green Chartreuse

½ ounce agave nectar

10-12 mint leaves

2 dashes habanero tincture (See Editor's Note)

Garnish: Tajin, lime, two mint sprigs

DIRECTIONS

Combine all ingredients in a shaker.

Shake and strain into a Collins glass with crushed ice.

Garnish with Tajin dusted on top, a lime and two mint sprigs.

**EDITOR'S NOTE

Habanero Tincture:

12 seeded and destemmed habaneros

1 liter of vodka

Drop habaneros into vodka and let stand for two weeks.
